Wearing an Abaya is not a problem but covering ones face is a problem as the persons identity is hidden.Normally any person would cover their face to conceal their identity.
In some traditions a womans face is covered to hide her beauty from opposite sex of unwanted attention. In this modern era I think this tradition is quite outdated and one should move forward with times.I believe there is a lot of difference between maintaining ones modesty and being behind the veil. Many women who holdfast with the good old traditions or consider it a dictum of faith argue that they feel very comfortable to be away from the unwanted attention and ogling of opposite sex and also they feel respected & powerful when undercover.I dont know how far it is true but I feel it can also be that when one follow the rituals of faith one feel empowered.More so women are more emotional than men about faith & they find solace in it.So it is quite harder to convince a woman than man about giving up rituals which do not make sense.
I have asked many people from different faiths about the rituals they blindly follow without a good reason & why they do this or that ritual.Generally they say they feel satisfied and at ease if they religiously go about doing the rituals. They mainly want to apease GOD for whatever reasons. As long there is no harm for others humans or nature by doing the rituals all seem good. But then some want to take extreme measures and justify that one can get closer to God only by doing sacrifices. Now we have started interfering with someone else space or disturbing nature in the name of apeasment & to be in Gods good books. The Goal being to reach Paradise. Are you Sensing trouble?I sense too.
